The Deep Memory exhibition seeks not necessarily to make Africa present in Europe, but perhaps echo Friedlander when he writes, “commentary should disrupt the facile linear progression of the narration, introduce alternative interpretations, question any partial conclusion, withstand the need for closure”. Artists are invited to look at different ways we deal with the memory of history and the residue left by the deep memory. The exhibition echoes that although we may never be able to explain or retrieve everything, working through it may help to keep watch over absent meaning.
